It's not easy to look at someone smile at you so sweetly when you know you're not the reason behind it. In his eyes lies no sadness, so what significance would you be in his life when you know that he's so happy he has no time to think of you as someone who would do anything just to make him smile? You're just friends and you have no right whatsoever to question his incredibly heaven-like aura, even if it means a constant torment to you. It sucks, and the only thing that's left to do is pity yourself.
Just one chance. One chance and everything can change forever. But as long as someone else can keep him smiling, you will never have a place in his heart. All you can do is watch them pass by, holding hands, laughing, never looking at anyone except each other, and in the deepest comforts of your heart, you wish you were the one with him, the one who knows exactly what to do and what not to do, the one he runs to when he's feeling down, and most importantly, the one he just loves and adores.
But being his friend you know you should be the last person to wish him away from his little darling. It's hurting you, but what's one more dose of pain to you? You're used to it, anyway, goodness gracious!
