HOME REMEDIES EVEN DOCTORS LOVE PART 1...
Research at Mount Sinai Medical Center found that hot chicken soup, either because of its aroma or its taste, "appears to possess an additional substance for increasing the flow of nasal mucus." These secretions -- what comes out when you blow your nose or sneeze -- serve a first line of defense removing germs from your system, research say. Here are more home remedies that they claim to really work:
FOR ATHLETE'S FOOT: BAKING SODA. For fungus on your feet, especially between the toes, apply baking soda paste. Take one tablespoon of baking soda and add a little lukewarm water. Rub that on the site of your fungus, then rinse and dry thoroughly. Finish the treatment by dusting on cornstarch or powder.
FOR BODY ODOR: TOMATO JUICE. You've tried everything, and nothing seems to work? Maybe you haven't tried everything. An old folk remedy for a dog that's been skunked is to deodorize the poor pup with tomato juice. And guess what? It works with humans, too. It works 100% all the time. You don't need to fill your tub with pure tomato juice, just pour a couple of cups in with your bath and sit for 15 mnutes.
FOR FOOT ACHES: ICE CUBES. One way to refreshed tired feet is to wrap a few ice cubes in a wet washcloth, then rub it over your feet and ankles for a few minutes. Ice acts to relieve any inflammation and it also serves as a mild anesthetic. Then dry your feet and swab it with cologne, alcohol, or vinegar for cooling and drying effect.
FOR HICCUPS: SUGAR. One that is found to be effective is one teaspoon of sugar, swallowed dry. That quit often stops the hiccups in minutes. The sugar is probably acting in the mouth to modify the nervous impulses that would otherwise tell the muscles in the diaphragm to contract spasmodically.
FOR FLU: SALT GARGLE. A sore or scratchy throat usually accompanies the flu. Get some relief -- and wash out any secretions that are collecting in your throat -- by gargling with a water-salt solution. Dissolve one teaspoon of salt in one pint of warm water. This concentration approximates the pH level of body tissues and is very soothing. Use often as needed, but try not to swallow the liquid because it's so high in sodium.
