Is classical music relevant to the rock music we listen to today?
I want to apply for the Arts Concentration program at my school for music, which puts a lot of emphasis on the classical genre.
I was just wondering, how relevant is classical music to rock, alternative, hard rock, and metal? I know the rules of music should apply to all genres, but will I be able to apply what I learn about classical music to the rock music I hope to compose in the future?
Just wondering.
Thanks!

I love music but Im not qualified to give advice i guess.
This is just what I think:
Its seldom those genres mix together today. Classical music takes the like of mozart to be on top. Its complicated. Rock music is where the money is nowadays. You don't need to spend years to play the guitar for example. A lot of them didnt even finished their education yet they are now millionaires.
I guess the secret is giving what people of today want. Thats the rock music does.
In your case, if you love them both then why not? Fuse them together. Who knows. Eagles once did it. They mix western and rock music. People loved it and they became one of the most successful band in their time. Classical music might mix right with rock. It just takes a creative guy to make it a success.
