Seven gallons

you have a jug that holds five gallons,and a jug that holds three gallons,you have no other containers,and there are no markings on the jugs.you need to obtain exactly seven gallons of water from a faucet.how can you do it?second problem:you need exactly four gallons.how do you do it?

1. fill half of water on the 5 gallon container.... this will make 2.5 gallons of water
2. fill half of water on 3 gallon container.... this will make 1.5 gallons of water
add the water from 3 gallon container to 5 gallon container
2.5 gal + 1.5gal = 4gal
3. fill out fully the 3 gallon container
4gal + 3gal = 7gal
am i right cz jen???

What about if the jugs are not regular in shapes? You can not really tell the halves of them do you 
Here's a more accurate solution:
1. Fill the 5-gallon jug up then transfer water to fill the 3-gallon jug. Meaning, what remains on the bigger jug is 2 gallons after you filled up the 3-gallon jug.
2. Throw the content of the 3-gallon jug and transfer the remaining 2 gallons from the bigger jug.
3. Now, fill the 5-gallon jug full.
therefore, 5 + 2 = 7

excellent answers...hats off to you bro papa and admin keen...but admin keen, don't throw the 3gal.,just drink it..remember we have to conserve water... Puzzle solved
