Singapore Joins the Outcry of Global Warming
Not only Maldives will be affected by global warming effect, other small islands-country like Singapore will also be affected if sea water level rises consistently. Having increased its island size through reclamation, Singapore find the real threat of global warming to its giant effort. Rising sea water will cover the low-laying new reclaimed island. During the environmental conference in Kenya, Singaporean representative voiced their concern about global warming effect. Yet, the rep also mentioned the need to balance between industrialization while at the same time, reducing the output of CO2. Everybody knows about this? Question is, how do you do that? No further elaboration from the speech, unfortunately.
The industrialization is a truly double-edge sword. At one hand, it can bring prosperity and uplift millions out of poverty. On the other hand, it contributes massive polution to environment and CO2 to the air that are reportedly rising at yet another alarming level. Countries, especially small islands like Maldives and other Pacific tiny states should worry about the global warming's impact in the next decades or so. The Kyoto Pact was rejected by the US, who contributes the largest amount of CO2 to the earth. It was also rejected by Australia. Now, China and India are joining the pipe to exhaust more CO2 in addition to the increasingly massive polution. It seems that our earth will never get worse. The worse has yet to come. Indonesia's annual contribution to the CO2 from its annual lands' clearing by burning is another factor that should have been avoided. Our earth is a living earth. It is no wonder there are many 'sneezing' recently due to the choking air.
