**Basic puzzle

A man decides to buy a nice horse. He pays $60 for it, and he is very content with the strong animal. After a year, the value of the horse has increased to $70 and he decides to sell the horse. But already a few days later he regrets his decision to sell the beautiful horse, and he buys it again. Unfortunately he has to pay $80 to get it back, so he loses $10. After another year of owning the horse, he finally decides to sell the horse for $90.

The Question: What is the overall profit the man makes?

sir keen how can he buy it again if he regret to sell , and how can he pay $80 if he the horse is with all the while!? .. nice decision to sell it at 90!! good merchant!!!

i think his profit is $20 bucks,because he loses $10 when he buy again the horse for $80... my answer is $20........sir keen m i correct

SIR KEEN, I THINK THERE IS NO HORSE INVOLVED AT ALL. " HE DECIDES TO BUY A HORSE AND HE PAYS $60" ... IF IT WOULD BE "HE DECIDED TO BUY A HORSE AND HE PAID $60", THEN MAYBE I WILL BE CONVINCED THAT THERE'S A PROFIT IN SELLING THE HORSE...
AND IF I'M MISTAKEN AND THERE IS A HORSE BOUGHT AT $60 , I THINK THERE IS NO LOSS OF $10 BECAUSE HE REGRET TO SELL IT SO HE DOESN'T NEED TO GET THE HORSE BACK AGAIN AT $80. LASTLY "HE DECIDES AGAIN TO SELL AT $90" BUT THE HORSE IS NOT YET SOLD SO THERE'S NO PROFIT YET. WHATEVER!!!!

#1. on the 1st trade he gain $10 he decide to buy @ $60,then decided to sell @ $70,meaning he gain +$10
# 2. he again decided to buy the h0rse in order to get it back so he has to pay $80,in 1 yr 0wning the horse,he decided to sell it @ $90.
THEREFORE THE MAN HAD LOST -$70 BECAUSE THE HORSE HE DECIDED TO SELL HAS N0T YET BEEN SOLD... thank y0u

so he add his $70 to his gain w/c was $10 from first trnsaction to get back his horse.

since he added 70 to his gain w/c is 10 so n0 gain before selling to 90.therefore

* the man invested capital of $80,therefore if he will dispose his horse @ $90. his total gain

Admin keen $20 is the profit. Why? Here's my xplaination: first capital $60, so after he sell the horse, he earned $10, to be able to buy the horse again he need $80. Therefore he need to add $10 to his capital, so over all capital is $70,the last cost of sell is $90. So $90-$70=$20.

Your answer is correct but here is simpler explanation:

1. 70 - 60 = 10 (first round of buy & sell)
2. 90 - 80 = 10 (that's second round)

Therefore he earnd in two rounds of buying and selling is $20

Note: prince_william was correct in his answer but he failed to explain it well
